The Ledge

The Ledge is a proper clifftop viewpoint that delivers in spades. You're standing on a dramatic outcrop just above Polruan, where the land suddenly drops away and the whole coast opens up - it's one of those moments where your phone camera genuinely can't do it justice.

The walk to get there is straightforward enough, threading through the village and up onto the coastal path. Once you're on The Ledge itself, you get unobstructed views across the Fowey estuary and out towards the open water. On a clear day - and you really need a clear day for this - it's genuinely stunning. The rock formations are interesting too, all weathered granite and sea spray.

This works brilliantly for walkers who don't mind a bit of vertical, and photographers will find themselves coming back for different light. It's not the kind of place to linger for hours though. Most people spend twenty minutes to half an hour taking it in and moving on. Fair warning: it can get blustery up there, and in poor visibility you've basically got a grey wall instead of a view.

If you're staying at one of the parks nearby - Par Sands is closest at under 3 miles - it makes a solid morning outing before heading back for lunch. Tremeer Farm's yurt glamping spots are equally close. It's exactly the sort of quick coastal fix that bridges the gap between longer days out, without demanding a massive time commitment.
