The Lido

The Lido sits just outside Chipping Norton, a proper local fixture that's been serving the community for decades. It's an open-air swimming pool - the sort of place that gets rammed on hot summer days and feels practically empty come September. You'll find a main pool for proper swimmers, a shallow end for kids paddling about, and if you're lucky, a diving board that still works.

This isn't the sort of attraction you'd drive hours out of your way for, but if you're camping at Cotswold Hills Country Park or Chipping Norton Camping and Caravanning Club Site nearby, it's genuinely useful. Families with young children get the most from it - there's enough space to spread out, the water's usually warmed to a reasonable temperature, and it's the kind of place where kids can burn off energy without their parents losing their minds.

Walkers and outdoorsy types tend to overlook it entirely, which is fair enough. But on a scorching July afternoon when you've already done three Cotswolds circuits on foot, an hour here hits different. Allow a couple of hours all in, including getting changed. Admission's usually modest for what it is, though you'll want to check opening times before you go - seasonal schedules can be a bit all over the place.

Worth factoring into a caravan holiday in the area if you've got kids and the weather's playing ball. Beyond that, it's a nice-to-have rather than a destination in itself.
