The Museum of Classic Sci-Fi sits just outside Hexham and trades entirely on nostalgia - which, depending on your tolerance for dusty props and vintage merchandise, is either brilliant or a bit much. You're looking at display cases crammed with old Doctor Who memorabilia, original film posters, action figures still in their packaging, and the kind of film stills that haven't seen daylight since 1987. It's the sort of place where you'll spot something that makes you go "Christ, I remember that" before moving swiftly to the next cabinet.

Real fans of the genre will lose themselves here for a solid two hours, photographing every last detail. Kids under about twelve might struggle with the static nature of it all - there's minimal interactivity - though anything with a spaceship or robot tends to hold their attention briefly. If you're dragging someone who thinks sci-fi is nonsense, they'll be done in thirty minutes.

The museum works well as a rainy-day option while based at one of the nearby glamping spots. Panoramic Pods is barely a mile and a half away, making it a natural pairing if you fancy something a bit different from the usual park entertainment. Langley Dam Glamping sits about three miles out, so equally convenient.

Honest verdict: it's a labour of love rather than a polished attraction, which means it's either charming or slightly chaotic depending on your mood. Worth an hour if you're already in Hexham on other business, but don't make it your main event.
