Walk in and you're confronted with uniforms, weapons, medals, and photographs spanning centuries of soldiering. It's a modest place, but that's rather the point.

This museum works best if you care about military history or have a connection to the regiment. School groups come through regularly, which tells you something about its educational value, though younger kids might lose interest after twenty minutes unless they're genuinely hooked on weaponry and uniforms. Adults with family military ties will find it properly absorbing - there's real detail here, not just surface stuff.

Winchester itself is close enough that you could easily combine this with a walk around the cathedral or a pub lunch without wasting fuel.

Stay at Hookpit Farm (3.5 miles away, excellent reviews) or the slightly further Holden Farm if you want a proper base for exploring this corner of Hampshire. Both are properly decent campsites with decent facilities.
