Thorn Clumps

Thorn Clumps is a small woodland area east of Peterstone that doesn't pretend to be anything grand - it's simply a proper Norfolk forest where you can walk among the trees without bumping into crowds. The paths wind through mixed woodland, quiet enough that you'll hear the birds, and there's something genuinely restful about it if you're staying in the area and fancy a break from the beaches.

It's the sort of place that works well for a couple of hours on a misty morning or late afternoon. Walkers will appreciate the woodland trails, though don't expect dramatic vistas or marked routes - this is understated English woodland, the kind where you might spot deer if you're lucky and keep your eyes peeled. Young kids might get restless unless they're the type who genuinely enjoy nature spotting rather than adventure playgrounds.

There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, and admission details are thin on the ground, but that's rather the point - it's free-access woodland, the type that locals know and visitors often miss. If you're based at Pinewoods Holiday Park just down the road, Thorn Clumps makes a solid morning walk before heading elsewhere. It won't take up your whole day, and that's fine. Sometimes a proper woods is enough.
