Walking through Todwick Wood feels like stepping into a proper working woodland rather than some manicured nature reserve. The trees are dense enough that you lose sight of Sheffield pretty quickly, even though the city's only a few miles away. It's the kind of place where you notice things - a stream cutting through the undergrowth, light filtering through oak and birch, the occasional flash of movement that might be a deer or just your imagination running away with you.

This is a straightforward woodland walk, free to access, and brilliant if you've got kids who need to burn off energy or you just want an hour or so away from the urban sprawl. The paths are well-trodden but nothing too demanding. Families will find it manageable; serious hikers might find it a bit too short and samey, but that depends on how much you value peace and quiet over dramatic vistas.

Timing-wise, allow an hour to ninety minutes for a decent wander. Spring's lovely when the woodland floor comes alive, and autumn works if you don't mind the wet underfoot.
