Trafalgar Covert

The woodland here is proper dense - ancient oak and beech pressing in from both sides of the path, the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think. Trafalgar Covert sits just outside Northampton and feels genuinely tucked away despite being accessible enough for a half-day outing. It's a straightforward woodland walk rather than anything showstopping, but that's rather the point. You're not here for facilities or interpretation boards; you're here for the green quiet.

Walkers will find it absorbing. The paths wind through mixed woodland with decent variation - open sections give way to denser stands where the light gets properly green-filtered. It's the sort of walk that feels restorative rather than dramatic, which some people will find exactly right and others might think a bit plain after an hour. There's no water feature or dramatic vista to anchor it, so solo wanderers or couples will get more from it than families with young kids expecting something to happen.

Allow ninety minutes if you're taking your time; you could do it in forty-five minutes if you're just after some air. Autumn's obviously when it looks its best, but it's walkable year-round - muddy boots weather, though.
