Tregavithick Wood

The woodland paths through Tregavithick don't announce themselves loudly. You'll find them quiet and properly restorative - the sort of place where an hour disappears without effort. It's ancient mixed woodland just outside Fowey, with enough trail variety to keep you moving without the relentless uphill grind you get elsewhere in Cornwall.

Walks through here range from gentle loops suitable for families to longer routes that link into the wider footpath network. The trees are substantial, the undergrowth dense in places, and there's genuine atmosphere once you're in among the oaks and beeches. It's free access, and you can rack up two or three hours here without running out of paths to explore.

Families with young children will manage the flatter sections without complaint, though pushchair use depends entirely on which route you pick - some are better maintained than others. Dog walkers absolutely love it. Serious hikers treating it as part of a larger Fowey valley walk will find enough here to justify a detour.

Timing-wise, spring is lovely when the wood comes alive, but honestly the place works year-round. Go early morning if you want any chance of solitude. It's close enough to Tremeer Farm and Tencreek Holiday Park that you could easily fit it into a longer Cornish break without any real effort. Don't expect dramatic views or dramatic anything really - this is about woodland peace rather than spectacle. Sometimes that's precisely what you need.
