Tregonetha Downs

Out on the high ground between Tremayne and the coast, Tregonetha Downs offers proper panoramic views across Cornwall's moorland. It's not a manicured viewpoint with a cafe and gift shop - just open heath with weathered granite outcrops and the kind of wind that cuts right through you. The walk up takes about twenty minutes from the nearest parking, and the effort pays off. On a clear day you can see for miles. Families with capable walkers will find it rewarding; younger kids might lose patience with the exposed terrain and lack of facilities.

The Downs themselves feel genuinely remote despite being accessible. You're walking on common land where the only distractions are the landscape and perhaps the occasional hiker. It's the sort of place you come for the walk rather than to tick a box. Allow an hour if you want to explore the higher ground properly and soak in the views without rushing.

Combine it with a shorter circuit of nearby moorland paths and you've got a proper Cornish rambling afternoon. The parking situation is basic, and there's nothing nearby to grab refreshments, so take what you need. Don't expect crowds or amenities. Expect space, views, and the chance to actually feel like you've earned the vista.
