Trevassack Lake is where the Children's Sailing Trust runs its operations, and it's genuinely worth a stop if you're camping nearby and have kids who fancy getting on the water. The lake itself is proper scenic - calm, manageable, and set up specifically for young sailors to learn the ropes without the sea's unpredictability throwing them off.

You'll find the facility geared entirely toward teaching children to sail, from absolute beginners right through to more confident types. Courses run through the summer months mainly, so timing matters. The trust offers day sessions and longer programs, and it's the kind of place where kids actually leave wanting to go back - rare for a sports activity, that.

If you're staying at The Secret Garden Glamping just down the road (less than a mile away), this is an obvious add-on for a day out. Henry's Camp Site is a bit further afield at just over six miles, but still within easy reach if you want a change of pace from the campsite routine.

Best suited to families with children aged roughly 8 upwards, though younger siblings can often tag along on non-sailing days. It's free to watch, but actual sailing tuition obviously costs - worth checking their website for current rates and booking slots well ahead during peak season. Allow a full morning or afternoon if your kids are doing a course, or just an hour or so if you're popping by to see what's on. Not a rainy-day option, mind you.
