Trevose Head Lighthouse

The lighthouse stands on a proper dramatic headland, perched on red and grey cliffs that drop away to churning Atlantic swells. Trevose Head juts out into the sea near Treyarnon like a finger pointing at the horizon, and the white tower is visible for miles along the coast. You can walk right up to it - the approach is straightforward enough, maybe twenty minutes from the car park, with the final stretch crossing open clifftop grassland. The views are genuinely something. On a clear day you're looking out towards Padstow Bay and beyond, and when the Atlantic's in a mood, the waves smash against the rocks below in proper dramatic fashion.

It's free to look at and the grounds are accessible during daylight. The lighthouse itself doesn't open to the public - this isn't one of those you climb - but that doesn't matter much. The real appeal is the walk and the setting. The cliffpath is well-maintained and good for families with steady legs, though it's windy up there so come prepared. Allow an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're the sort to sit about and soak it in.

If you're based at one of the nearby parks - Padstow Holiday Village, Porthilly Beach, or Sun Haven are all within six miles - this makes an easy morning or afternoon outing. It works nicely as part of a broader coastal walk, and the surrounding cliffs are worth exploring. Spring and early summer are loveliest when the gorse is flowering, though honestly any time without horizontal rain is fine.
