Trewint Tor

The walk up Trewint Tor rewards you with proper 360-degree views across Bodmin Moor and beyond - the kind of vista that makes the climb worthwhile even on a drizzly day. It's not a massive peak, but the moorland setting and the sense of being genuinely away from things make it feel more remote than the short distance from Launceston suggests.

The ascent itself is straightforward, taking maybe 20-30 minutes from the car park depending on fitness. You're crossing open moorland, so there's no shelter - bring a windproof if the weather's turning. The summit gives you sweeping views south toward Bodmin and north across the moor. On clear days you can pick out Dartmoor in the distance.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's not a casual family stroll if you've got toddlers, but older kids who don't mind a bit of mud will find the moorland terrain interesting. History enthusiasts might appreciate the Bronze Age remains dotted across the landscape, though there's nothing massively obvious to see up top.

If you're staying at either Ekopod or Trewithen Farm - both excellent glamping spots within spitting distance - Trewint Tor makes a solid half-morning outing before heading to other Bodmin attractions. Go early if you want clear views; moorland weather closes in quickly. Entirely free, no facilities up there, so bring water. Allow a couple of hours total if you want to linger and actually enjoy the views rather than just tick it off.
