Tuckey Covert

A proper woodland walk near Buckingham that feels worlds away from the commuter belt just a few miles south. Tuckey Covert is a small forest - you're not talking about getting lost for hours - but it's exactly the sort of place where you can actually hear birdsong without traffic noise in the background.

The woodland itself is dense and cool underfoot, with paths that wind through beech and oak. It's genuinely peaceful, the kind of spot where you notice things: patches of bluebells if you time it right in spring, dappled light through the canopy, the occasional flash of a wood pigeon. There's nothing grandiose about it, but that's rather the point.

For families, allow an hour maximum. Kids might find it a bit samey after thirty minutes unless they're proper nature enthusiasts, and there aren't playgrounds or obvious attractions to keep them entertained. Dog walkers will love it though - the paths are manageable and there's plenty to sniff. This is more for adults wanting a genuine breather than for a day's outing.

If you're camping at Embers Camping in Claydon nearby, it's absolutely worth a morning wander before breakfast. Costs nothing as far as I can establish, and there's no entry fee business. The closest facilities and supplies are back in Buckingham itself, so plan accordingly. Go early if you want any solitude - it's accessible enough that weekend afternoons can get a bit busier with locals who know what they're doing.
