Tuilyies Standing Stones

Three tall stones stand in a field near Dunfermline, weathered and purposeful, marking something ancient that nobody quite agrees on anymore. The Tuilyies Standing Stones are Bronze Age work - that much is certain - though whether they're a burial marker, ritual site or something else entirely gets lost in the mist of time.

You won't spend hours here. It's a proper quick stop, the kind of thing you do on a walking route rather than a destination in itself. The stones have real presence though, especially if you catch them in low light when the shadows deepen and you start thinking about whoever put them there five thousand years ago. No visitor centre, no explanations, just the stones and whatever story you bring to them.

This works well if you're staying at West Fife Pods or Meadow View Glamping and Camping - both within easy driving distance - and want to break up a park-based holiday with something that gets you out into the countryside. Historians and archaeology types will find it worthwhile. Families with younger kids might find five minutes is enough before everyone wants to move on. The site's open access, free, and there's no formal infrastructure, so bring decent footwear if the ground's wet. The walk from the nearest parking is short but can be muddy. Worth the detour if you're in the area, but don't rearrange your trip specifically for it.
