You get proper views across the Northamptonshire countryside from the ridge - on a clear day you can see for miles, and the green undulation of the land just keeps rolling away. It's the kind of place where you understand why people actually lived here.

Walkers will find this worthwhile. The terrain is gentle enough that you're not fighting the landscape, but there's enough of a hill to make it feel like exercise rather than a stroll. You can easily spend two hours here without rushing, though families with very small children might find the exposed sections a bit exposed. Bring a windproof.

The best approach is treating it as part of a wider Northamptonshire ramble rather than a destination in itself. If you're staying at Northfield Farm - a solid caravan park about six miles away - this slots in nicely as a morning walk before lunch. The site itself is free to access, which is always welcome, and there's minimal infrastructure, so come prepared. No café, no facilities, but that's also why it feels proper rather than packaged. Late afternoon light makes the slopes glow nicely if you can time it right. Worth a visit if you're in the area, though I wouldn't recommend planning a whole day around it alone.
