Valleyfield Woods Entrance

The entrance to Valleyfield Woods sits just outside Dunfermline, a proper gateway to one of Fife's best woodland walks. You'll know you've found it by the car park and information board - nothing fancy, but it does the job. The woods themselves are the real draw: mature trees, decent paths that don't require scrambling, and enough space to lose the crowds if you time it right.

It's ideal for families wanting a half-day walk without the highland trek commitment. Young kids can manage the easier routes, though some sections get a touch muddy after rain - wellies aren't overkill. History types will appreciate the industrial heritage scattered through here, remnants of Fife's mining past woven into the landscape. Serious walkers will find longer loops to stretch the legs.

Free to enter, which is always welcome. Allow two to three hours depending on which path you take. Spring and autumn hit the sweet spot - summer gets busy, winter can be boggy. The woods connect nicely into a wider Dunfermline rambling loop if you've got the legs for it.
