Victoria Wood Statue

You'll find a bronze statue of Victoria Wood in Bury town centre, a tribute to the comedian, actress and playwright who was born here in 1953. It's a modest memorial rather than a grand monument - the kind of thing you might stumble across while wandering through the town, which is rather fitting for someone who built her career on spotting life's small absurdities.

Victoria Wood fans will make the pilgrimage. She died in 2016, and this statue went up a couple of years later. You can stand in front of it, have a photo, maybe think about her sharp observations on northern life and family dynamics. It takes ten minutes max, but it's the sort of thing that matters if you grew up watching her sketch shows or the film Talent.
