Walking into Victory Plantation feels like stepping into someone's carefully tended secret. This Northamptonshire woodland sits quietly near Peterborough, away from the usual tourist trail, and that's rather the point. The forest isn't vast - you're not going to lose yourself for hours - but it's got that gentle, managed quality that makes for a proper afternoon's wander without the crowds you'd get at bigger country estates.

The mix of mature trees and open glades means you actually get decent light and views, which counts for something. It's the sort of place walkers appreciate more than families with small children, though older kids who don't need constant entertainment will do fine here. The paths are straightforward enough, and there's something oddly satisfying about walking through planted woodland where every tree feels intentional rather than wild.

It works well as part of a Northamptonshire break - Northfield Farm is just down the road if you're basing yourself at one of the local holiday parks. You're close enough to mix it with visits to the bigger attractions, but far enough out that you can actually breathe. Go mid-week if you can; weekends bring the nearby Peterborough crowd. Allow a couple of hours if you're taking your time, less if you're just stretching your legs. No facilities that I'm aware of, so sort yourself out before you arrive.
