Wappenbury Wood

Wappenbury Wood sits just outside Leamington Spa and is exactly the sort of place that rewards a proper wander rather than a quick lap. It's ancient woodland - the kind where you actually feel like you're walking through something with some age to it, not just planted conifers in neat rows. The paths are decent and mostly well-trodden, threading through mixed broadleaves with decent light filtering through the canopy, especially in spring when the bluebells come through.

This is walker territory, really. Dog owners love it, families with kids who don't need constant entertainment will get a solid hour or two out of it, and anyone keen on spotting woodland birds should bring binoculars. There's nothing dramatic here - no viewpoint, no waterfall, no cafe - so go in with the right expectations. You're after peace and fresh air, not Instagram moments.

The wood is open dawn to dusk most days, and it's free. Allow an hour minimum, two if you're in no rush and want to sit about. Wednesdays appear to be closed, so check before heading if that's when you're planning to visit.

If you're based at one of the nearby parks - Eriba Glade is particularly well-rated and only 2.5 miles away - Wappenbury makes an easy morning or afternoon slot between longer trips into Warwickshire. It's not a destination in itself, but it's a proper asset if you're caravan-based in the area and want to stretch your legs without driving far.
