Wardle Pools

A pair of tranquil pools sat just outside Whitchurch, Cheshire, offering a proper escape if you're touring the region and fancy a break from the caravan. Wardle Pools are genuinely peaceful - the kind of spot where you can actually hear yourself think, which counts for something in this part of the world.

The pools themselves are calm stretches of water, ideal for a slow walk around the perimeter. No rushing about required. Birdwatchers tend to get the most from it, as the water attracts various species year-round. Families with younger kids will find it manageable enough - the walking pace is gentle, nothing demanding - though once you've done a lap there's not masses to keep them occupied beyond watching ducks.

Access appears to be free, though we'd suggest checking locally in Whitchurch before heading out, as opening hours and seasonal restrictions do vary. Allow an hour tops if you're just doing a circuit. It's the sort of place to tack onto a wider walk rather than make a special trip for.

If you're based at Abbey Green Farm or Bramblewood just up the road - both within easy reach at around three and a half miles - Wardle Pools works well as a morning stroll before heading into Whitchurch proper for lunch. It won't set your pulse racing, but that's rather the point. Sometimes flat and quiet beats dramatic and heaving.
