Warren Copse

Warren Copse is a proper working forest tucked between Wokingham and Bracknell - the sort of place you can disappear into for an afternoon without needing a postcode or a car park ticket. It's not a country estate or a manicured woodland walk. This is actual forest management in action, with conifers and mixed woodland that feels less like a Sunday stroll venue and more like somewhere you need a decent map.

What you get is a network of tracks winding through the trees, decent for walking and mountain biking if you're into that. It's the kind of place where you might spot something interesting - woodpeckers, maybe - rather than swarms of other visitors. Allow a couple of hours to avoid feeling rushed, though an hour works fine if you're just after some air and exercise.

It's brilliant for walkers who want trees without the tourist infrastructure. Kids who fidget easily will get bored fast, unless you're the sort who lets them scramble about on logs. History buffs won't find much here - it's forestry, not heritage.

If you're staying at Scotlands House Campsite just down the road, or one of the other parks clustered around Warfield and beyond, Warren Copse makes a sensible half-day leg-stretcher. Don't expect facilities or signage to be glossy. Go for the actual forest, not the experience. That's when you'll enjoy it most.
