WDC Scottish Dolphin Centre

The dolphin centre sits right on Buckie's waterfront, and it's genuinely the best spot on the Moray Firth to learn about the bottlenose dolphins that live in these waters. You get proper exhibits explaining their behaviour, conservation efforts, and what makes this stretch of coastline so important for the population here. There's a viewing platform where you can actually watch for dolphins if you're lucky - and locals reckon your odds are decent, especially in summer.

It's not a massive attraction, so don't expect to spend half a day here. An hour or so works well. Families with primary school kids will get the most from it; the interactive bits hold their attention, and there's something quite magical about standing on that platform hoping to spot a fin. Older teenagers might find it a touch slow unless they're genuinely interested in marine biology.

If you're staying at Greencraig Pods just down the road, the centre makes a natural morning visit before heading elsewhere along the coast. It's free entry, which is rare these days, though they rely on donations. Go on a clear day if possible - you'll actually see something of the water rather than Scotch mist.

The real draw here is the chance to connect with something wild and local. Buckie itself is a working fishing port, not a tourist trap, so there's an authenticity to it all. Worth the detour if you're exploring the Highlands.
