Kids might get restless after twenty minutes unless they're the type who enjoy collecting stones and examining rock faces.

The real win is the walk. Head towards the cliffs and you can trace the layers of earth formation with your own eyes - no museum interpretation needed. The paths along the top are well-trodden and give you views across the Thames estuary if visibility's decent. Parking's straightforward and it costs nothing.

It works better as part of a longer coastal route than as a standalone attraction. Go when the light's good - the cliffs look better in late afternoon sun, and you'll avoid the school holidays crush altogether.
