West Sink

You'll find West Sink tucked into the Yorkshire limestone between Skipton and the higher reaches of the Dales - it's one of those caves that rewards walkers who know where to look rather than tourist traps clogged with gift shops. The entrance is modest, almost underwhelming until you step inside and realise you're looking at a proper cave system with water running through it.

It's a working streamway cave, which means exploring involves getting wet and navigating underground passages that demand a bit of scrambling. This isn't a lit-up showpiece with handrails - it's raw geology and genuine adventure rolled into one. The walk in takes around thirty minutes from the nearest road access, and the cave itself will keep you occupied for another hour or so if you're taking your time and being sensible about footing on wet rock.

Honestly, it's best suited to teenagers and adults who've got some caving experience or at least aren't squeamish about tight spaces and cold water. Young kids will struggle with the physicality and the slightly claustrophobic passages.
