Westbourne Gardens

Walking into Westbourne Gardens near Looe, you're immediately struck by how the landscape shifts from manicured paths to proper wild moorland within minutes. It's a nature reserve that doesn't announce itself loudly - no grand entrance, no cafe selling overpriced coffee - just plants, birds, and the kind of quiet you actually want from a reserve.

The gardens sit on ground that rises gently, giving you decent views across the surrounding countryside without being a slog. You'll spot gorse, heather, and if you're lucky, some of the birds that use this as a stopping point. It's the sort of place walkers genuinely enjoy because there's something to look at beyond your own footsteps, and the paths are manageable for most fitness levels.

This works particularly well if you're based at one of the nearby parks - Lydcott Glamping or Waterside at Tregoad are both within five miles, making it a cracking morning or afternoon outing without needing to drive far from your accommodation. Looe Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite is equally close.

Bring binoculars if you're into birds, proper walking boots if you've had rain, and at least an hour to do it justice. Children will get something from it if they're the type to enjoy spotting things rather than needing a playground, but it's honestly better suited to adults looking for a bit of genuine nature time. It's low-key, free of the crowds you'd find at bigger attractions, and genuinely rewarding.
