Weston Mount

The walk up Weston Mount rewards you with proper Shropshire views - nothing dramatic, but genuinely rewarding. It's a modest peak that most visitors miss entirely, which is precisely why it's worth your time. From the summit you can see across the local landscape with Shrewsbury sitting somewhere in the distance, and on a clear day the visibility stretches far enough to make the climb feel worthwhile.

This is walker territory, not a tourist trap. The approach is straightforward enough for families with older kids, though younger ones might find the gradient tedious. Allow an hour for a steady ascent and descent, though you could easily dawdle longer at the top with a flask and a sandwich. The peak itself is quiet - you'll rarely queue or fight for space.

Weston Mount works brilliantly as a half-day excursion from any of the nearby caravan parks. Hawk Lake is closest at under two miles, while Lower Lacon and Springfield Riverside are barely further. If you're based at one of these for a week, this gives you a proper walk without needing to travel far from camp. It's the kind of thing you do on a lazy afternoon rather than making a special journey for.

Free to visit, obviously - there's no gatehouse or entrance fee. The terrain can get muddy after rain, so decent boots matter more than fancy kit. Go when the weather's settled, ideally mid-week if you want the place entirely to yourself.
