Windmill Spinney

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination in itself, Windmill Spinney sits just outside Priors Hardwick and offers a decent stretch of legs if you're staying at one of the local campsites. The name comes from an old mill that once stood here - though you won't find much trace of it now. What you get instead is a small patch of mixed woodland where paths wind through the trees, offering just enough shade and shelter to make a morning worthwhile.

It's the kind of place that works best as part of a bigger loop rather than a standalone trip. Families with young kids will manage the terrain fine, though there's not much to hold their attention beyond "trees and more trees". Walkers passing through the area will find it a pleasant diversion - nothing strenuous, nothing dramatic. If you're based at Holt Farm Campsite or Anita's just down the road, it's a logical fifteen-minute amble to break up the day.

The real draw here is access. It's free to wander and requires no planning - turn up whenever suits you. Allow thirty to forty-five minutes if you're properly exploring rather than just cutting through. Spring can be decent for woodland flowers, though autumn light filters through the canopy better. Worth a visit if you're in the Priors Hardwick area, but don't detour from further afield. It's functional countryside rather than spectacular.
