Y Gribin

The walk up Y Gribin from Llanbrynmair takes about forty minutes if you're moving at a reasonable pace, and the payoff is a proper 360-degree view across Mid Wales that justifies every uphill step. The peak itself isn't dramatic - no jagged rocks or exposed scrambles - but the landscape rolling away below you is the kind of thing that makes you understand why people move to Powys and never leave. On clear days you can see for miles. On grey ones, which is most of the time in this part of Wales, there's still something satisfying about being above the cloud line looking down at it all.

This is a walker's destination rather than a destination for sitting about. You're not going to spend hours here - thirty minutes at the top is plenty unless you're the sort who brings a packed lunch and a thermos. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might find the final stretch tedious. The terrain is moorland and grass, so proper boots matter after rain. There's no charge, no visitor centre, no facilities whatsoever - you get what you came for, which is the walk and the view.

If you're camping at Pandy Camping just down the road, Y Gribin makes a decent morning outing before breakfast gets cold. It's the kind of place that works well in a week of exploring the local peaks rather than as a standalone trip. Worth doing if you're in the area. Don't detour specially for it.
