Zawn Pyg Rock Arch

Scrambling down the cliff path near Penzance, you'll spot Zawn Pyg Rock Arch long before you reach it - a proper geological oddity carved into the Cornish granite. The arch itself is modest in size but genuinely striking, formed by millennia of Atlantic swells punching through the rock face. It's the sort of place that makes you stop mid-stride and actually look at what the sea has done over time.

This isn't a managed attraction with facilities or queues. There's no admission fee, no gift shop, just you and the rocks. The walk down requires a bit of scrambling and decent footwear - trainers won't cut it if it's damp. Allow an hour including the descent and pottering about taking photos from different angles. Spring and summer work best; winter swells make the approach properly dodgy.

It appeals most to walkers and geology enthusiasts rather than casual tourists. Young kids might find the novelty fun, but there's not much to actually do once you're there - this is about the landscape, not activities. The arch frames the sea nicely, and if you time it right with the light, the photos are decent.

Staying at Lands End Camping & Glamping just down the coast puts you within easy striking distance. Roselands, a few miles inland, offers more facilities if you've got the family in tow. Either way, this is a worthwhile detour on a coastal walk rather than a destination in itself.
