2 Siloam Cottage

A squat stone cottage tucked into the Conwy Valley - this is where Thomas Telford's aqueduct engineering team stayed during construction in the 1820s. You'll find it just off the road between Betws-y-Coed and the main A5, unremarkable from a distance but genuinely interesting if you're into industrial heritage or Victorian engineering.

The cottage itself is modest - cream-coloured render, slate roof, the sort of building you'd walk past without a second glance unless you knew what it was. What matters is what it represents: the practical side of one of Wales's most significant infrastructure projects. Telford's Conwy Aqueduct sits nearby, and this cottage anchors that story to real people and real labour.

Historically minded visitors will find it worth a brief stop, particularly if you're already exploring the aqueduct or walking the valley. Kids might find it underwhelming unless they're already interested in industrial archaeology. Allow ten minutes maximum - it's more of a roadside marker than a destination in itself.
