Abbey Barn

The converted barn sits just outside Kenilworth, housing a small but genuine collection of local artefacts and rural history. It's the sort of place that takes thirty minutes to an hour to walk round properly - not a major attraction, but absolutely worthwhile if you're in the area exploring Kenilworth Castle or wandering the nearby parks.

What you get is a proper snapshot of life in medieval and Tudor Warwickshire. Pottery, tools, documents, domestic objects - the kind of material that rarely makes it into the big museums but tells you far more about how ordinary people actually lived. The building itself is worth seeing, obviously. Old stone, character, decent light.

Families with younger kids might find it a bit quiet, but anyone interested in local history or archaeology will spend longer than you'd expect poking about. It's the opposite of a theme-park experience - no screens, no shouting, just cabinets and careful labelling.

If you're camping at Mousley House Farm or one of the other parks clustered round Kenilworth, this makes a sensible half-morning visit before heading to Warwick Racecourse Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite or pushing on elsewhere. The real draw in the area is Kenilworth Castle itself, but Abbey Barn fills a gap nicely and costs virtually nothing.

Go on a weekday if you can. The quiet is part of the appeal.
