Aberdour Beach

The beach at Aberdour stretches out north of Fraserburgh with that particular Scottish rawness - grey sand, proper Atlantic wind, and sky that changes mood every twenty minutes. It's the kind of place where you actually feel the weather rather than just observe it. The main appeal is straightforward: a long, fairly sheltered bay that's decent for a walk at any tide, with rock pools if you're prepared to scramble a bit at the northern end. Families with younger kids will find enough to keep them occupied for an hour or two, though it's not the sort of beach with donkey rides or arcades - which is exactly why some people will love it. The walk along the shore towards Fraserburgh town takes about forty minutes at a leisurely pace and gives proper views across the water. Go on a decent day and it's genuinely lovely; go when it's grey and lashing and it's equally atmospheric, just bring a windproof. Free to access, obviously - it's a beach. If you're staying at AC/DC Glamping just up the road, this is an easy evening stroll. Down On The Farm is another couple of minutes further inland, so this works well as part of a broader beach day rather than a dedicated trip. The rock pools reward attention, especially for anyone interested in marine life. Not somewhere to take kids expecting theme-park energy, but proper value if you want a genuine Aberdeenshire coast experience.
