Afan Forest Mining museum

The old mining museum at Afan Forest feels less like a polished visitor attraction and more like someone's kept the lights on in a working memory. You're walking through actual pit buildings - not reconstructions - where the coal industry once dominated this corner of South Wales. The exhibits tell the story of what mining meant to Port Talbot and the wider Neath Port Talbot area, and there's genuine weight to it.

It's straightforward, really. You get the machinery, the tools, the photographs of the men who worked underground, and the harsh reality of what the industry extracted from this landscape and its people.
