Alder Cover

Alder Cover is a small woodland patch in Bracknell Forest, proper woodland walking territory just a few miles from Windsor. It's the sort of place you'd find yourself if you're already exploring the forest trails rather than planning a special trip out here. The woodland itself is dense with mature alders - hence the name - and offers a quiet retreat from the residential sprawl around Bracknell.

For woodland walkers this is worth an hour or so, especially if you're combining it with other forest routes nearby. The paths are relatively easy underfoot and the canopy is thick enough to feel properly secluded even though you're minutes from town. There's nothing elaborate here - no visitor centre, no facilities that I could find, just trees and paths. It's the sort of place where you'll bump into locals doing their regular circuit, not crowds.

Based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Warfield Park or Cranbourne Hall are closest at around three to five miles away - you could build a gentle day around exploring different woodland pockets in Bracknell Forest. Alder Cover fits nicely into that if you fancy a quieter walk that doesn't require much planning. Admission appears free. There's not much to do if you're after a destination with amenities, but if you simply want to walk somewhere green and undisturbed, it delivers that without fuss. Children might manage thirty minutes before needing something with more going on.
