All Saints Parish Church

All Saints sits quietly in Hexham, and it's one of those churches that rewards a proper look around rather than a five-minute dash through. The building itself is medieval - solid stone, good proportions - and the interior has enough going on to keep you genuinely interested for half an hour or so. There's decent stained glass, and the kind of accumulated detail you only spot if you actually pause and look: memorials, carvings, the bones of a building that's been standing for centuries.

It works best if you're already in Hexham town centre, which most people are - Hexham's a proper stopping point in the Tyne Valley, with decent shops and places to eat. Slot twenty minutes in here and you've covered the main church without feeling rushed. No entry fee, as far as I can tell, which is standard for working parish churches.

If you're basing yourself at one of the nearby glamping sites - Wild Northumberland is barely a mile away - it's worth combining with a wander around Hexham itself rather than making a special trip. The real draw of the area is the landscape and the walks: the river, the hills, the sense of space. This church is a side note to that, not the main event. Good for a rainy afternoon or as part of a town visit, but don't expect fireworks. It's solid, local history, and that's enough.
