Allerthorpe Lakeland Park

About twenty minutes south of York, Allerthorpe Lakeland Park is a proper water park that sits on a decent-sized lake - the kind of place that justifies a half-day trip if you're camping or glamping nearby. You get the usual water park setup: inflatable obstacles, paddling areas, and enough space for families to actually spread out without feeling rammed in.

The lake itself is the draw. It's genuinely quite nice - clear enough water, a sandy beach-style entry, and room for both timid swimmers and confident splashers. The park runs activities like inflatable assault courses and paddleboards, which is where the real entertainment lies. It's not enormous, so don't expect Alton Towers-level crowds or queues, but that's rather the point.

Kids aged five to thirteen will get the most out of it. Younger children find the inflatables genuinely thrilling, while teenagers might be bored after an hour or two. Adults often end up doing more supervising than relaxing, though the lakeside setting beats staring at a concrete pool surround.

The park is well positioned for the glamping spots scattered about - Wolds Glamping Pods and Shepherds Huts is barely a mile away, and The Spinney Wild Camping even closer. These are your bases for exploring the Yorkshire countryside without abandoning water-based fun entirely. Summer weekends are your best bet; off-season opening is patchy. Bring a towel and reasonable footwear - the grounds get muddy after rain.
