Allt Cefn-Crug

The forest walk at Allt Cefn-Crug sits just outside Llandovery, tucked into the kind of hillside that makes you remember why you came to mid-Wales in the first place. It's a proper woodland experience - the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think, which is rarer than it ought to be.

The main draw here is straightforward: trees, paths, and views that open up as you climb. The terrain isn't brutal, but it's not flat either, so come prepared for a bit of huffing. Most people allow between one and two hours depending on how far they venture. The woodland canopy is thick enough to make this a good option even when the weather's being Welsh about things - rain drips through but you're reasonably sheltered.

Families with kids aged seven upwards will get decent mileage out of it. Younger children might find the walking tedious without the distraction of a proper destination, though there's always the possibility of spotting wildlife if they're into that sort of thing.
