Allt Cwm Sarah

Tucked into the hills above Llandysul, this forest valley feels properly remote even though it's only a short drive from civilisation. Allt Cwm Sarah is the kind of place where you actually hear yourself think - steep wooded sides, a decent stream running through the bottom, and enough peace and quiet to make city lungs remember how to breathe properly.

It's walkers' territory, frankly. The terrain is hilly enough to feel like proper exercise, but nothing that'll have you regretting your hiking boots. You're looking at anything from a gentle hour's potter to a half-day expedition depending on which way you head into it. The forest floor is soft underfoot and the canopy does a good job of keeping the worst of Welsh drizzle off your head, which matters.

History types might find the old industrial remnants interesting - this area's got slate and mining heritage if you know where to look. Families with older kids will manage fine; younger ones might get bored after an hour unless they're genuinely keen on woodland exploring.

If you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots - The Hiveaway, Wild Wellingtons, or Woodland Hideaway are all within striking distance - this makes a proper day out without needing to go far. Free access as far as I can tell, though facilities are non-existent, so come prepared. Early morning is best before anyone else shows up.
