Families with older children who can handle uneven paths will find this rewarding, though it's not pushchair-friendly terrain. Dog walkers absolutely love it - plenty of space to let energetic pets off the lead safely. The forest floor stays damp even in summer, so decent boots are essential.

Expect to spend a couple of hours if you're doing a proper walk. The trees are mixed - oak, ash and birch mainly - with clearings that open up lovely views across the Teifi valley when the leaves are down. Spring brings bluebells in patches, though nothing spectacular.

Brynawelon Touring & Camping Park sits closest, less than a mile away, while Greenfields Holiday Park and Woodland Hideaway Park are both easily reachable. After a morning tramping through Allt Hoffnant, the kids will sleep well - and you'll have earned that pub lunch in Llandysul.
