Angel Piece

A proper woodland walk on the outskirts of Oxford, Angel Piece is the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan for. The forest itself is modest in size but dense enough that you feel genuinely away from the city once you're in among the trees. Paths wind through decent stretches of mixed woodland - oaks, beeches, the usual suspects - and it's the kind of spot where you can actually hear yourself think for five minutes.

This is walker territory, really. You won't need hiking boots or anything dramatic, but it's good for a decent leg-stretch if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Anita's or Fir Tree Campsite. Bring the kids if they're happy tramping about and poking at tree bark; anyone under eight might lose interest after half an hour. The main pull is the quiet and the green - it's not a destination in itself, but rather a valuable reset button when you've had enough of Oxford proper.

No entrance fee as far as I can tell, and it's accessible year-round, though winter can get muddy underfoot. Allow an hour to explore properly without rushing. If you're based at Mount Farm Park or anywhere in the area, slot this into a morning before heading into town. Best visited when Oxford itself feels too crowded - which is most of the time, if I'm honest.
