Anstruther Golf Club

The East Neuk of Fife is proper golf country, and Anstruther Golf Club sits right in the heart of it all. This 18-hole links course has been here since 1890, carved into the coastal landscape just outside the fishing town of Anstruther. The layout is tight and challenging - narrow fairways, bunkers that bite, views across the Firth of Forth on a clear day. It's not a long course by modern standards, but the wind off the water keeps you honest.

You'll need to be a member to play here, or arrange a visit through the club in advance. Green fees aren't cheap, but that's links golf on this stretch of coast. Allow half a day minimum if you're playing, longer if you want to explore the clubhouse and grab food after.

This is one for golfers first, families second. Young kids won't get much from standing around watching, though the coastal setting is lovely enough for a walk beforehand. History types might appreciate the heritage - it's been a proper members' club for over a century, which counts for something.

Stay at one of the nearby parks - Silverdyke or Kilrenny Mill are closest, both within touching distance. St Monans Holiday Park is a quick hop away if those are full. The whole East Neuk is worth a few days: Anstruther itself has the Scottish Fisheries Museum, good fish and chips, and easy access to Elie and Crail down the coast. Golf here sits well within a wider coastal holiday.
