Arnison Crag

The walk up Arnison Crag is short, sharp, and absolutely worth doing if you're based around Penrith. It's barely 45 minutes from the carpark to the summit, which makes it ideal if you've got restless kids or just can't face a full-day fell walk. The views across the Eden Valley are proper - on a clear day you can see right across to the Lake District fells, and there's something satisfying about bagging a peak this easily.

It's a straightforward climb with decent paths, though the final push gets a bit steep. Walkers of all abilities tackle it, and families with teenagers would find it manageable. The real appeal is that it feels less crowded than the big names, so you're not queuing for views. Allow 90 minutes if you want to potter around at the top and take in the landscape properly.
