Ash Tree Hill Clump

A stand of mature ash trees on a gentle rise just outside Worksop, Ash Tree Hill Clump is the kind of spot you'd easily miss if someone hadn't pointed it out. The woodland here is properly substantial though, with the trees tall enough to create real shade and the ground underneath soft with leaf litter. It's a short walk from the road, maybe ten minutes through relatively open terrain.

This is woodland for walkers who want a proper stretch of the legs rather than a destination in itself. The views from the top are decent without being spectacular - you get a sense of the landscape rolling away towards Clumber Park, which sits just half a mile away. If you're staying at one of the caravan parks nearby (Clumber Park Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite is barely six hundred metres away), it's worth combining with a walk around the estate itself rather than treating it as a standalone visit.

You won't need more than an hour here unless you're the type to sit about on a bench with a flask. It's free to visit and there are no facilities to speak of, so come prepared. Kids might find it a bit dull if they're expecting something more dramatic, but it's a solid morning woodland walk if you're in the area. The real draw of the neighbourhood is Clumber Park itself - the Clump just adds another loop to your walking options. Visit when the weather's decent; there's little shelter when the rain comes in.
