Ashen Coppice

Dense woodland stretches across rolling Herefordshire countryside, offering proper rambling territory for those who fancy getting properly lost among ancient oak and ash trees. Ashen Coppice sits close enough to Malvern to make a decent afternoon's walk, though you'll need to bring your own entertainment - this isn't somewhere with marked trails or visitor facilities.

Dog walkers will have a field day here. The woodland floor crunches satisfyingly underfoot with decades of fallen leaves, and there's enough space for energetic pups to bound about off-lead without bothering other visitors. Families with young children might find it a bit too wild and unstructured, though older kids who like building dens and scrambling over fallen logs could spend hours exploring.

Bring proper walking boots - the ground gets muddy even in summer, and some sections can be quite boggy after rain. There's no car park that I could spot, so you'll likely be parking roadside and walking in. Allow a couple of hours if you want to explore properly, though you could easily spend longer if you're the type who enjoys sitting quietly and listening to the woodland sounds.

With several holiday parks within easy reach, including Out To Grass Camping just half a mile away, it makes a lovely addition to a Herefordshire break. Much better value than paying for one of those managed forest experiences - this feels authentically wild.
