Ancient oak and ash trees tower overhead in this peaceful woodland just outside Bearley, where old drovers' paths wind through 50 acres of mixed forest. The wood feels properly wild despite being so close to Stratford-upon-Avon - you'll find badger setts, woodpecker holes and the occasional deer if you tread quietly.

Families with older children will love the network of unofficial paths that branch off the main track. Younger ones might find it a bit challenging underfoot, especially after rain when the clay soil gets properly muddy. Dog walkers absolutely adore this place - plenty of space to let them off the lead.

The lack of signage or formal facilities is part of its appeal, though it means you need to know where you're going. Park carefully on the lane verges near Austy Farm and allow at least an hour for a decent wander. Spring brings bluebells and wild garlic, while autumn colours are cracking.

For those staying at nearby parks like Island Meadow or The Apple Farm, it's a lovely morning walk that feels miles from anywhere. Just bring decent boots and maybe download an OS map - this isn't a manicured country park but proper Warwickshire woodland at its most authentic.
