Bamber's Holt

Walk into Bamber's Holt and you're into proper woodland - the sort of place where the light filters through in broken patches and you can actually hear yourself think. It's a forest rather than a country park, so don't expect manicured paths and tea rooms. What you get instead is genuine trees, space to roam, and the kind of quiet that feels increasingly rare near the coast.

The woodland sits inland from Skegness, making it a natural escape if you've had your fill of beach town noise and fish and chips wrappers blowing about. Walkers will find their time here well spent, though the paths can be muddy even days after rain - proper forest floor rather than tarmac. It's the sort of place where kids either love charging about between the trees or get bored within twenty minutes if they're the screen-dependent type. Families staying at The Nurseries Caravan Site, just down the road, could easily pop over for a morning walk without making a whole day of it.

There's nothing fancy here - no visitor centre, no admission charge that I'm aware of, just access to actual woodland. That's rather the point. If you want your nature walk to involve queuing and gift shops, this isn't it. Come expecting trees, birdsong, and a bit of mud on your boots, and you won't be disappointed. Allow a couple of hours to feel like you've actually been somewhere, rather than just passing through.
