Barrow Hills

Barrow Hills is a proper woodland walk on the outskirts of Doncaster, the kind of place that rewards you with decent views if you're willing to climb a bit. The forest itself is straightforward - mixed woodland with established paths that won't leave you scrambling through brambles, though it can get muddy after rain so proper boots are worth the bother. You get some elevation gain, which means the vistas over the surrounding countryside are worth the effort, especially on a clear day when you can pick out the landscape rolling away toward the horizon.

Walkers will get the most from this. It's not a massive destination - you're looking at an hour or so to do it properly without dawdling - but it's a solid addition to a day out rather than a standalone trip. Kids will manage it fine if they're used to trailing round forests, though there's nothing flashy here to hold their attention if they're after amusement. The absence of obvious facilities means you should come prepared - bring water, wear sensible shoes.

Since it's close to Doncaster and within striking distance of several caravan parks - Bawtry is just 2.3 miles away, Hallcroft Fishery about 6 miles - it slots nicely into a longer park holiday in the region.
