Lion Country

Drive past Doncaster heading south and you'll spot the big cat sculptures that mark Lion Country - a roadside attraction that's part sculpture park, part quirky monument to something that never quite was. The site itself is modest: oversized metal lions and other big cats frozen in various poses along a stretch of open ground. It's the sort of thing that makes you do a double-take from the road, and plenty of people pull over for a photo.

What you're really getting here is a bit of Yorkshire eccentricity and a photo stop rather than a destination that'll eat up your afternoon. Kids find it entertaining for twenty minutes or so - the sheer oddness of enormous predators in the middle of nowhere does the trick. Adults tend to appreciate it as a minor curio, the kind of thing you stumble upon rather than plan a trip around.

It's free to have a look, and there's no formal opening times - you're essentially popping out of the car at a roadside spot. The nearest proper base would be Bawtry caravan park, just 3.9 miles away, which makes Lion Country an easy detour if you're staying locally. Sunnyview Touring Park is also within striking distance at 5.1 miles. If you're touring the caravan parks around Doncaster, this is worth ten minutes. Don't expect much more than that, and you won't be disappointed.
