Barrow upon Soar Library

Three afternoons a week and Saturday mornings, this compact village library opens its doors to locals and visitors exploring the Soar valley. Like most community libraries these days, it's run largely by volunteers who've kept this vital resource alive when others have closed.

The building itself won't win any architectural prizes, but step inside and you'll find a proper selection of books alongside computers for internet access and printing. Staff are genuinely helpful - the sort who remember what you borrowed last time and can point you toward something similar. Regular story sessions keep toddlers entertained while parents browse, and there's usually a local history section that's surprisingly comprehensive.

Families staying at nearby Proctors Park or High Meadows Farm will find it handy for rainy day refuge or picking up holiday reading. The limited opening hours mean planning ahead is essential - don't assume it'll be open when you need it.

Really though, this is community infrastructure rather than tourist attraction. Unless you're researching local genealogy or desperately need wifi, there's little reason to make a special trip. Better to combine a quick visit with exploring Barrow upon Soar's pleasant riverside walks or browsing the village shops. It serves its purpose well enough, but expecting more than basic library services would be pushing it.
