Beacon Hill

Standing at 105 metres above sea level, this modest Norfolk peak holds the distinction of being the county's highest point. The climb itself won't challenge seasoned fell walkers - it's more of a gentle woodland stroll through beech trees that takes about 20 minutes from the car park near West Runton. What makes it worthwhile is the surprisingly good view across the North Norfolk coast once you reach the top.

Families with young children will find this an easy win for a morning adventure. The path is well-maintained and pushes buggies can manage most of it, though the final approach to the summit marker gets a bit rough underfoot. Dog walkers love it here - plenty of interesting scents and safe off-lead running once you're away from the road.

Expect to spend about an hour here unless you're combining it with a longer walk along the Norfolk Coast Path, which passes nearby. The summit itself is marked by a triangulation pillar and a small clearing, though trees limit the panoramic views you might hope for from Norfolk's loftiest spot.
